(Des Plaines, IL) — Once the city with the highest car thefts in the nation, Las Vegas has fallen out of the top ten. The National Insurance Crime Bureau says just over 8600 stolen vehicles were reported in Vegas last year.
Sin City fell from 9th place in 2009, to 17th in 2010. Police have credited “bait car” programs to catch thieves in the act for the decline.
Reno ranked 91st overall, while Carson City placed 211th. Fresno,California now holds the top spot for car theft rates, with Modesto and Bakersfield also in the top three.
