LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 22-year-old Las Vegas man has been sentenced to two to six years in prison for binding and gagging his girlfriend’s two toddlers and leaving them in a garage while he went to watch a televised basketball game in June 2009.

But the judge said Jonathan Weaver will be eligible for parole next month because he’s served nearly two years in the Clark County jail.

The Las Vegas Sun reports that Weaver apologized and his public defense lawyer called his remorse genuine during sentencing Tuesday by Clark County District Court Judge James Bixler.

Weaver pleaded guilty in January to two counts of child abuse and the use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a crime. His plea avoided trial on six felony charges including attempted murder and kidnapping.
