(Las Vegas,NV)  —  Water rates may go up to pay for future construction projects.  The Southern Nevada Water Authority board has approved a nearly 500-million dollar budget for the upcoming fiscal year, but agency chief Pat Mulroy wants to hire a consultant to study possible rate hikes.

The Water Authority is facing slower growth in water hookups and tax revenue, and Mulroy says the agency needs to shore up its finances to sell future construction bonds.
