Ensign Critical of Himself
(Washington,DC) — Senator John Ensign says he was “blind” to how “arrogant and self-centered” he’d become during an affair with the wife of a former aide. It was that revelation two years ago that led the longtime Republican lawmaker to announce his resignation from the U.S. Senate.
In his farewell speech yesterday, Ensign apologized for placing colleagues in what he called, “difficult situations.” He also thanked fellow Nevadan Harry Reid, whom he called a true friend.
Ensign will officially leave the Senate today, and Congressman Dean Heller will be sworn in as his replacement.
