(Las Vegas, NV)  —  Clark County District Attorney David Roger says he won’t comply with a county order to cut his staff by nine percent.  Roger has sent a letter to County Manager Don Burnette, noting the courts and defense officers have received budget increases.

Roger called the payroll cut order for his office “arbitrary and capricious.”  The DA’s office has a nearly 90-million-dollar budget and 600 employees.

At the current status quo, Clark County is spending double the amount per case defended for every case prosecuted.
The public defender’s office isn’t being cut. The DA’s office has taken repeated cuts, grossly inflated workloads, and they’re now told they need to decrease by an additional 9%?
Citizen’s justice will diminish significantly if this happens. David Roger is correct in his stance.
