Henderson Police are asking for information on locating the suspect in last weekend’s kidnapping of a seven-year-old girl.  Police say 28-year-old Matthew Hayward took the girl from the apartment he was staying at in Henderson last Saturday.  He reportedly took off in his car, but it broke down on U.S. 95 near Russell Road, so he took the girl on foot to a nearby gas station and called a taxi.  Once in the cab, Hayward reportedly pulled a knife on the driver and ordered him to drive to California.  Once in Barstow, California, Hayward ordered the cab driver and the girl out of the car and took off by himself.  The driver and the girl were not injured.  The cab was later found abandoned in the parking lot of a Barstow restaurant.

Hayward is wanted for kidnapping, robbery, burglary, and assault with a deadly weapon.  Police believe he may try to return to the Henderson area.  Matthew Hayward is described as a black man, about 6 feet tall, 180 pounds, with a medium build, brown eyes, curly black hair, and a goatee.  He has earrings in both ears and multiple tattoos on his arms and hands.  Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Henderson Police at 267-4750 or Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.  Anyone who sees Matthew Hayward is asked to call 911 immediately.

Police have released three video surveillance clips from the taxicab.  Those links are below.
