LAS VEGAS (AP) — A former Las Vegas justice of the peace received a public rebuke and a four-year ban on serving as judge for attacking his then-wife at home in November 2008.
Attorney Tony Abbatangelo on Thursday acknowledged his censure by the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline stemming from his 2009 misdemeanor battery domestic violence conviction.
Abbatangelo previously admitted attacking his wife of 13 years. She told police he choked her and screamed at her during an argument. He was sentenced to two days house arrest, community service and domestic violence counseling.
Abbatangelo has remarried, lost a bid for a third term and returned to work as a criminal lawyer.
He tells The Associated Press that he, his former wife, their children and his current wife are putting the case behind them.
