First Lady Kathleen Sandoval is joining First Ladies across the United States to help celebrate “Light the Way,” an event to support advances in biomedical research to treat Down syndrome cognitive impairment.  Tonight, the Governor’s Mansion will be lit in blue to raise awareness.

“I am proud to join First Lady Mary Pat Christie of New Jersey and other First Ladies across our country to help raise awareness of this important research,” First Lady Kathleen Sandoval said.  “Lighting the mansion blue is a small gesture, but I believe a gesture that if we do together, can make an even larger impact.”

Sponsored by Research Down Syndrome, the event takes place on World Down Syndrome Day, March 21, 2011, bringing attention to the rapidly advancing area of Down syndrome cognitive research.  According to Research Down Syndrome, this area of research holds great promise for improving memory, learning and communication for individuals of all ages with Down syndrome.
