CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — College and university students from around the state descended on Carson City today to protest steep budget cuts proposed by Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval.
Fourteen buses from Las Vegas pulled into the capital for the rally today in front of the Nevada Legislature.
Organizers say others were to join the event from around northern Nevada, including Reno.
Sandoval has proposed cutting state support for higher education by $162 million over the next two years. Higher education officials say that will mean elimination of programs, layoffs and hefty tuition increases paid by students.
