About 60 Clark County workers will be laid off Friday in the latest round of government cutbacks. County spokesman Erik Pappa tells KLAS-TV the layoffs will take place at the Development Services Department, which handles building permits and inspections. Due to the downturn in the construction industry, Pappa says fewer people are needed to handle the workload. Over the past five years, Development Services has gone from over 600 employees to less than two hundred.
