A developer is airing a proposal for a nearly $1.6 billion downtown Las Vegas sports complex, and trying to poke holes in a rival plan for a domed stadium seating 40,000 at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
The Las Vegas Sun reported Tuesday the Las Vegas National Sports Center plan would include a 50,000-seat partially enclosed football stadium, a 17,500-seat basketball and hockey arena and a 9,000-seat partially enclosed baseball stadium on 70 acres near the Interstate 15 Spaghetti Bowl freeway interchange.
The new proposal is by International Development Management LLC, the Romani Group and Turner Construction.
It comes four days before the Nevada university Board of Regents considers giving the developer behind the Staples Center in Los Angeles an exclusive right to develop a domed stadium at UNLV.
