The race to succeed Las Vegas’ popular mayor begins today, as candidates begin filing to run for the office held by Oscar Goodman for the past 12 years.
Among those who have already announced they would run are Councilman Steve Ross, Clark County Commissioner Larry Brown, real estate agent Marlene Rogoff; and self-proclaimed underdog Anthony Werneke. County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani is also considering a run. Three of Las Vegas’ council seats are also up for grabs. Incumbents Lois Tarkanian and Ricki Barlow will seek re-election, but in Ward Three, incumbent Gary Reese can’t run again due to term limits. Former state lawmaker Bob Coffin and city planning commission member Steve Evans are hoping to replace Reese.
