Nevada’s Republican House members will sit with the state’s lone Democratic representative in a show of unity during the State of the Union address tonight.
Rep. Shelley Berkley has asked Republican Reps. Joe Heck and Dean Heller to join her at the speech to show members of both political parties can work together. Berkley spokesman David Cherry says Heck and Heller accepted the invitation. Nonpartisan seating is becoming a trend in Congress this year. Democrats and Republicans usually sit with members of their parties during the annual speech in the House chamber.
But some lawmakers plan to break that tradition amid calls for more civility in Congress and less partisanship after Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ shooting in Arizona.
