There’s an app coming out today that will allow smartphones to file taxes.

Intuit’s TurboTax is due to unveil SnapTax, a new mobile application that lets taxpayers who file an 1040EZ prepare and file federal and state income taxes. The app can be downloaded for free, but a 14-dollar-99-cent fee will be charged to file a return. The app uses optical character recognition technology to fill out users’ tax returns. It’ll transfer information to the relevant lines on Form 1040EZ once a picture of a W2 is taken with a smartphone. The app provides the same security and privacy features that come in the company’s tax preparation software.
