If one state lawmaker has her way, you will have to get a prescription to buy cold medicine.
State Senator Sheila Leslie, D-Reno, is working on a bill for the upcoming legislative session aimed at curbing methamphetamine makers from making illegal drugs from legal medicine.
Under the bill, the purchase of cold medicine with ephedrine, pseudoephedrine or phenylpropanolamine would require a doctor’s prescription.
Medicines with those ingredients were placed behind pharmacy counters, and buyers required to sign a registry following the passage of a law during the 2007 session.
Methamphetamine makers recruit others purchase as much of the cold medicine as posible, before moving on to other pharmacies to do the same. Leslie says the proposed bill would help reduce the production of illegal drugs in Nevada.
What do you think? Should cold medicine be prescription only?
