LAS VEGAS (AP) — A judge in Las Vegas set a May 31 trial date for Palms Casino Resort owner George Maloof Jr.

The Las Vegas Sun reports that lawyer Wade Rabenhorst stood in for the 46-year-old Maloof at Monday’s arraignment before Justice of the Peace Eric Goodman. Maloof didn’t appear.

The charges stem from a traffic stop late Oct. 9 near Maloof’s home southwest of the Las Vegas Strip.

Maloof later told The Associated Press that he had four beers at a wedding and that his blood-alcohol level was measured at 0.086 percent.

That’s just over the legal limit in Nevada of 0.08 percent, but Maloof said he thought he was “nowhere near intoxicated.”

MR. MALOOF should not be charged for that much over the limit and being so close to his home…I do not believe in drunks driving or cell userers texting of making calls, but this is not something that should be making a fool of Mr. Maloof…Look what he has done for Las Vegas, given us a beautiful and fun hotel…So the Judge should just forget this whole mess and it will remain with Mr. Maloof as a warning for the future to be safe and not have to be sorry. GOOD LUCK MR. MALOOF.

Penny, where do you draw the line? They have determined that this is a good number to go by. They wouldn’t let you off for that.
The next person would say that .087 is “not that much over the limit.”

    This really does seem ridiculous.

MR. MALOOF MADE A MISTAKE, BUT LOOK WHAT THIS GOOD MAN HAS DONE FOR LAS VEGAS. HE HAS GIVEN US THE PALMS AND HAS DONE SO MUCH FOR LAS VEGAS…NO TRIAL FOR HIM, HE REALIZES WHAT IS WHAT AND WILL BEHAVE IN THE FUTURE. JUST LET HIM BE AND WE WILL ALL BE HAPPY. I LOVE THE PALMS AND MR. MALOOF IS A VERY GOOD AND GIVING GENTLEMAN.
