Mayors Propose Tax Increase
Six Nevada mayors will meet with Governor Brian Sandoval today, in an effort to prevent state officials from dipping into local government reserves to balance the budget.
At his weekly news conference yesterday, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman said he will ask the Governor and legislative leaders to consider a property tax increase to help reduce the state’s deficit. Goodman says he doesn’t prefer to raise taxes, but “sometimes you don’t have a choice.”
Sandoval ran on a promise of no new taxes to balance the budget.
