NFL Coaching Carousel: Cable Out, Lewis Safe
Tom Cable is out as head coach of the Oakland Raiders, while Marvin Lewis is returning to coach the Cincinnati Bengals. The Raiders have declined to pick up the option on Cable’s contract. The Raiders finished 8-8 this season, including a 6-and-0 mark in the AFC West, but failed to make the playoffs. Cable went 17-27 in two-plus seasons as the team’s head coach. Meanwhile, the Bengals announced they haver agreed to a new contract with Lewis, who was reportedly on the hot seat after the team’s dismal 4-12 finish this season. Lewis has a 60-67-1 regular season record in eight seasons as Bengals coach, with two division titles (2005, ’09.) The team reportedly decided to bring back Lewis after he pledged to change how the organization operates.
