Toshiba hopes a slightly larger screen than the iPad and an upcoming version of Google’s Android operating software will lure consumers to its tablet computer.
The tentatively titled Toshiba Tablet will include a touch screen that is 10.1 inches diagonally — compared with 9.7 inches on Apple Inc.’s iPad. It will have the forthcoming Honeycomb version of Android, which will be more optimized for tablets than current versions. Android is now better suited for smart phones. The computer and TV maker plans to unveil the device at the annual International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. Numerous other companies plan to show off tablets, too. Toshiba Corp. expects to sell the tablet by the end of June. A price has not yet been set.
