Boxer Floyd Mayweather Junior was arrested late Thursday night and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a misdemeanor battery warrant stemming from an incident with a security guard. Metro Police say Mayweather was taken into custody shortly before midnight at a casino on the Las Vegas Strip. He was booked and released on his own recognizance late Friday morning. A Las Vegas
judge reinstated the warrant earlier this week, after prosecutors suggested the champion boxer was being given special treatment. Justice of the Peace Tony Abbatangelo originally signed the warrant last week, then immediately quashed it. At this week’s hearing, Assistant DA Chris Owens asked the judge to “follow the law in regard to the booking process,” noting that a warrant must be executed in the case.Mayweather is set to go to trial in February. He’s accused of jabbing his finger into the security guard’s cheek during a confrontation outside the boxer’s home last month. Mayweather is also facing a felony charge in a separate case for a domestic violence incident involving his former girlfriend and his three children.
