Talk about your battles between man and machine.
Or, should we phrase that in the form of a question? The game show “Jeopardy!” will feature a game between two of its most successful contestants — Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter — and a computer named “Watson.” The computer was designed by IBM’s artificial intelligence team. The matches will be spread over three days — with the shows airing February 14-15. This isn’t the first time computers have taken on humans — as anyone who has played Scrabble or some other game against a computer game knows. But Jeopardy! requires contestants to deal with subtleties, puns and riddles — and come up with answers fast — so it’s expected to be more of a challenge for the computer. Watson has already played about 50 test games against past Jeopardy! champs. But neither the show nor the computer maker would say how the computer did.
