wikileak 385 Court Denies Bail Request For WikiLeaks Founder

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been denied bail in Britain and will remain in custody until a hearing on December 14th.

Assange surrendered to British police today after issuance of a Swedish warrant for his arrest.  Assange faces sex crime allegations in Sweden.  He denies the allegations and his attorney has vowed to fight Assange’s extradition to Sweden.  The attorney alleges Sweden is being swayed by foreign powers.

WikiLeaks has published numerous confidential diplomatic documents.  The furor over the leaks has led some to praise Assange as a hero, while others have condemned him for endangering national security.  A statement on the website pledges to release more confidential material and says the arrest of the 39-year-old won’t affect its operations.
