The rumor mill is buzzing over today’s planned Google press conference, one day after the company launched its digital book store online.
Google opened its eBooks store Monday as part of its push into the e-commerce business. The store features three-million titles that are compatible with several different e-reading devices, including Barnes and Noble’s Nook and Sony’s e-reader. However, the books are not compatible with Amazon’s Kindle. Google has not announced its purpose for today’s press conference, but many expect the company will use the conference to launch its Chrome web store, which Google describes as an open marketplace for web applications. It’s also believed Google will debut its first portable computer, the Chrome OS netbook, which runs on the company’s Chrome operating system.
