There was an unexpected rise in filings for first-time jobless claims last week.
The latest numbers from the Labor Department show 457-thousand initial claims were filed. That’s 20-thousand more claims than the previous week. Analysts were expecting a smaller jump of about nine-thousand claims. The number of claims filed in the week ending October 23rd, including continuing claims, was more than four-point-three-million. The monthly unemployment report for October is due to be released tomorrow.
