As far as road projects go, the official launch of the new Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge was relatively low-keyed.
National Park Service spokesman Andrew Munoz says the 240-million dollar bridge over the Colorado River finally opened to traffic around 10:00 Tuesday night. Officially known as the Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, it was officially dedicated last week, and thousands were able to walk across it on Saturday. It’s the western hemisphere’s longest single-span concrete arch bridge, and is expected to ease congestion on U.S. 93 across Hoover Dam, making travel easier for those shuttling between Southern Nevada and Arizona.
