The puck drops on the 2010-11 National Hockey League season today with five games, including one overseas. The Carolina Hurricanes are taking on the Minnesota Wild in Helsinki, Finland. Four other games are set for tonight on North American soil. The Pittsburgh Penguins will play their first official game at the brand new Consol Energy Center as they host the division-rival Philadelphia Flyers. The Pens are moving into the new facility after 49 years in Mellon Arena, a.k.a. “The Igloo.” A pair of matchups north of the border tonight feature the Montreal Canadiens at the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Calgary Flames visiting the Edmonton Oilers. And, the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks open defense of their title in Denver against the Colorado Avalanche.
