A single-engine plane with four people on board crashed in a Silverado Ranch neighborhood this morning, killing one person and leaving the other three with life-threatening injuries.
Metropolitan Police spokesman Joe Ojeda reported two males and two females aboard the four-seater Piper Cherokee. According to FAA , the plane departed from Henderson Executive Airport but did not file a flight plan.
The pilot tried to return to Henderson after the plane lost power, but instead crashed on a neighborhood street near the intersection of Bermuda and Rapture, about 2 miles northwest of the airport.
The plane broke up on impact and caught fire. Ojeda said neighborhood residents rushed to the scene and did a “good job” of extinguishing the flames. The fire was out before responders arrived.
The NTSB is scheduled to begin an investigation later this afternoon.
