The role of Blue Man is a very physically demanding one. We are seeking men and women who fit the following specifications:

  • 5’10”-6’1”
  • Athletic build
  • Solid percussion/drum skills or strong musical background
  • Excellent acting skills – the ability to communicate honestly within the dramatic circumstance and the ability to express emotions and communicate non-verbally
  • Open to exploring an alternative acting style
  • Able to let your ego go and embrace a collaborative working environment
  • Dynamic, charismatic personality
  • Open-minded
  • Willing to travel and /or relocate Phase One: Auditions

Step One: Interview
Due to the large volume of applicants at open calls, we do a private interview or screening to determine who we take to the next step. This may consist of taking a look at your resume, asking you a few questions and determining if you meet the physical requirements.

  • Step Two: Drumming Audition
This second step lasts only a short time, generally 5-10 minutes, but provides us with a wealth of information about how your drumming skills and overall musicality match up with the Blue Man character.

    Step Three: Acting Auditions
The acting auditions are the first opportunity to look at your range, thought process and storytelling abilities, both verbal and non-verbal. Blue Man “language” is introduced, as we supply you with a vocabulary on which to build the understanding of the character. The casting team offers further insight into what the character might be thinking in certain situations to help you build a framework for developing choices.

    Phase Two: Callbacks

    Step One: Workshop
At this point in the process, performers begin working in an environment that is more like a rehearsal than an audition and will include multiple candidates. The workshop may be one or two days with each day broken into a morning and afternoon session. This time you will work on specific pieces from the show, the work may also include other elements of acting or music, or address technical issues such as physicality. The workshop may conclude with an invited “Bald and Blue” presentation of the work to the casting team.

When: Monday, July 19 from 10 am to 4 pm
